Following a 12.4% decline in manufacturing jobs from June 2006 to December 2009, Texas demonstrated the positive trend of adding manufacturing jobs in each of the first six months of 2010. Over the past year, Texas communities, including the San Antonio area, have added thousands of jobs, despite a national recession pushing unemployment to unacceptably high levels in many parts of the country.
We also felt the economic downturn, but Texas and San Antonio have outperformed most areas, especially in job creation. One important reason for our strong performance is our business-friendly environment attracting major employers in the face of fierce competition from other states.
The “deal-closing” Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) helps tip the balance in our favor when financial incentives are a factor in a company’s decision-making process. Westover Office Center
Vacant since completion in 2008, the Westover Office Center, a two-story office building located at 10000 Rogers Run in Westover Hills, landed the Kohl’s operations center which will fill the 102,000 square-foot building. Wisconsin-based Kohl’s department store reportedly signed a ten-year lease which will help bolster absorption and improve occupancy figures in the second quarter. …Read Entire Post

The Oaks at University Business Park
San Antonio has been selected by Allstate Insurance as the site of a new $11.6 million customer information center which will create 600 new jobs. The center will be located in 75,000 square feet at The Oaks at University Business Park located on the Northwest Side at 12238 Silicon. Allstate plans to open the facility in May. The Employment Outlook for Q1 2010 released by BusinessWeek (November 4, 2009), listed San Antonio among America’s 25 Next Recovering Job Markets (view slide of the San Antonio market; click arrows to view other markets). The list included several Texas cities including McAllen (#3), Brownsville (#4), Laredo (#8), Austin (#14), San Antonio (#19) and others.

Current Nationwide office at Parkway Center
For more than three years, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. has been eyeing San Antonio for possible expansion. I refer you to the San Antonio Business Journal article Nationwide Insurance ramping up operations in Alamo City dated October 17, 2006. Looks like they are finally ready to move forward with their plans with the help of $2.5 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund, according to a statement released earlier today by Governor Rick Perry.
